Guidelines for the Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis: 2011 update (document)

The recommendations in these guidelines address the topical questions concerning the programmatic management of drug-resistant TB: case-finding, multidrug resistance, treatment regimens, monitoring the response to treatment, and selecting models of care. They encourage the wider use of rapid drug-susceptibility testing with molecular techniques to detect rifampicin resistance in TB patients and provide appropriate treatment. Ambulatory models of care to manage patients with drug-resistant TB are recommended over others based mainly on hospitalization.

The Global Plan to Stop TB (document)

The Global Plan to Stop TB 2011-2015 retains the full spirit of its predecessor, Global Plan to Stop TB 2006-2015, while providing a clearer blueprint for action, setting out what needs to be done to achieve the 2015 targets set within the context of the MDGs and by the Stop TB Partnership. It takes in to account significant policy changes and costs to antiretroviral therapy, updates to the MDR-TB component of the plan, updates to estimates of epidemiological burden and trends, the importance of giving a higher profile to laboratory strengthening and the necessity to address the full spectrum of research.

Latent Tuberculosis Infection: A Guide for Primary Health Care Providers (document)

Managing Drug Interactions in the Treatment of HIV-Related Tuberculosis (document)

These updated guidelines from CDC and its partners include recommendations for managing pharmacologic interactions that can result when patients receive antiretroviral drugs for treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection together with rifamycins for treatment of tuberculosis. New content calls for the use of newer antiretroviral drugs, including those in new classes, ie CCR5 receptor antagonists and integrase inhibitors. Additional recommendations are made in regard to utilizing rifampin with antiretroviral therapy.
